In the words of Le Corbusier, "Windows are the eyes of the home, letting in light and framing the world outside".

It is not only that windows help retain heat and help keep noise out they also help frame the look and character of a house. In many ways the first thing people see of others is their face and this is also true of houses. This is why many historical and areas of archictural interest have preservations orders on all the properties which are sited in the same area. Careful consideration must be used when materials and detail is considered before they are placed on these houses. In many of these areas materials like PVc are outlawed with heavy penalities for people who breach planning regulations. This is why owners of Edwardian and Victorian houses sometimes have trouble finding builders and window makers to refurbish historic sash windows.

Services

Welcome

I've done it all.

From stripping out an entire shutter box, paint stripping and then putting back properly all the way to changing the cords on a single sash or just changing the catches on a window.

I have drilled out old rotten wooden lintels over windows, replaced and fixed brick work when needed.

I have fixed, repaired and married wood together so joints cannot be seen after painting (obviously when attempting to save as much of a sash as possible).

From simple draught proofing to a complete restoration of windows all the way up to building new sash windows, I John Gormley am the man who can get it done.

I am also involved with restoration of old doors as well.

Fixing old lock holes, fixing and gluing split panels, adding panels where they've been removed in the past all the way to fixing and restructuring the door so joints become functional again.

I can also match a new door to an old door (If I am the one to construct it).

Paint stripping, finishing to a natural finish with patches matched to the original wood is a speciality.
